John McConnell's Jackpot De Choisel will make his chasing debut in the novices' handicap chase at Ayr on Wednesday.

It was at the same venue that he landed a juvenile hurdle by a whopping 32 lengths in February.

Since then, he was fifth in a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Naas the same month and was pulled up in the valuable Liam Healy Memorial Lartigue Hurdle at Listowel in September.

"He's had his issues - he bled in the Lartigue after a hurdle, so you are always a little bit worried," McConnell said.

"He jumps fences very well and we would be hoping that he would be a better chaser than hurdler.

"It looks like a nice opportunity and Ayr is a lovely track. The beginners' chases over here are so competitive.

"He might just have a nice mark in a handicap. If he keeps the other issues at bay, he could have a future over fences."

Jackpot De Choisel is set to face four rivals including fellow Irish raiders The Flier Begley from Stuart Crawford's yard and Midnight It Is who represents Gavin Cromwell.
