Jack's chasing bow is ground-dependant Crack Away Jack will have to wait just a little longer to make his chasing debut after trainer Emma Lavelle decided against a run at Exeter on Tuesday. The Zoya Vaux Birthday Best Mate Beginners' Chase at the Devon track had a fascinating look to it before the final declarations were made, with quickish ground removing most of the main contenders. Crack Away Jack disputes favouritism with most bookmakers for the Arkle Trophy, although Sizing Europe joined him at the top after a fine performance last week. Lavelle's star was among the best of the hurdlers last season, finishing a close fourth in the Champion Hurdle. "I just thought that even if the rain comes at Exeter, the top two inches of the ground might be nice but it still could be a little fast," said Lavelle. "We just have to keep an eye on the weather. There are other races coming up for him - there's a race at the next Exeter meeting and a two miles and three race at Ascot."
