Smart dual-purpose gelding Jason The Militant has suffered a setback that is likely to leave him on the sidelines until next spring.

The seven-year-old, twice successful at Graded level over hurdles, brought his Flat form to a new level recently when landing the Listed Finale Stakes on the final day of the turf season at Naas.

He was narrowly beaten last year in the Unibet Morgiana Hurdle and again held an entry in that Punchestown Grade 1 next Sunday but plans are now on hold.

Trainer Henry de Bromhead said, “Jason The Militant got hurt running on the Flat last week and will be out for a couple of months. We found a stress fracture.

“Hopefully it’s only short term and we’ll have him back in the spring.”

The son of Sans Frontieres has won a total of five races for owner Peter Michael and over €100,000 in prize-money.
