Jesse Evans registers ninth career win Festival regular Jesse Evans (85/40) notched a ninth career success today as the dual Galway Hurdle-runner-up easily landed Ballinrobe’s opening McHale Pro Glide Hurdle, for trainer Noel Meade and jockey Donagh Meyler. Having previously competed at almost all of the big Irish festival meetings and in four Galway Hurdles, Jesse Evans today brought his prizemoney haul to €350,000 when scoring a hard-held 12 lengths success, from runner-up Fils d’Oudairies . Meade said “he was well in at the weights so my only little worry was that we were coming back from fences and it was quick enough too since Killarney. I’m delighted for him because he’s after having a couple of tough races: it’s lovely to get an easy one like that. “He’ll probably go back to Galway but he won’t go for the Hurdle and I don’t think he’ll go for the Plate either as I think it’s too far for him, and he’s gone up in the weights as well. “He’s a lovely horse and the Grimes Hurdle in Tipperary might be worth looking at. “The boys (Singleton family, owners) are from Cork and we (County Meath) beat Cork the other day so there was a bit of banter!” Quotes from Gary Carson
