Jewel on brink of Another Crystal Cup

Connections of Another Jewel will be seeking another bold show in Friday's Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham.

If Denis Murphy's nine-year-old can finish in the first five he will clinch the Crystal Cup, the prize awarded to the leading cross country performer in Europe, for a second time.

Another Jewel is currently in third place in the 10-race competition which culminates at Cheltenham after events in France, Ireland and Belgium.

"Another Jewel was disappointing at Compiegne last time out (November 18th). Nothing really came to light afterwards but I would be hopeful that he can run a better race this time," said Murphy.

"He's had two starts on the cross country course at Cheltenham before, finishing fourth and seventh at the Festival, and returns there in good form.

"Another Jewel is a point and a half behind the leader in the standings for the Crystal Cup and it would be great to win it again.

"The two French horses above him in the table aren't going to Cheltenham but we will have to see what happens on Friday."

Garde Champetre and his conqueror from the last meeting, Uncle Junior, are due to meet again.
