Paddy Flood’s Analysis Thread of Gold won the Finale Stakes on Sunday at the Curragh. He was ridden by our new champion jockey, Billy Lee. Billy had a smashing year, and young Paddy Harnett as well. We have to say a massive well done to them. Thread of Gold is absolutely the eye-catcher of the weekend. He won a maiden first time out for Willie Mullins as a two-year-old, and his form has been good, albeit a little patchy in places. This is a Listed race, and he's making these look like bad handicappers. Watch The Jockey Angle in Full Billy's still hard on the bridle two out and these are good Listed horses. You try and win a Listed race at the Curragh with an ordinary horse, you have absolutely no chance. He basically gets to the furlong marker, gives him a squeeze. He's probably a length in front by the time he gives him the squeeze, and just watch this lad go all the way to the line. I'd be putting this lad in my horse tracker for a Melbourne Cup because he's got the pedigree for it. He's got the owners that don't mind travelling, and Willie Mullins doesn't mind travelling to Australia either. This guy is way, way above Listed level after that win. I thought it was visually impressive and the horse's times backed up the way it looked. The great man on his back, Billy Lee. What a way to cap off the year by winning the last race at the Curragh!
