Kia Joorabchian is relishing the prospect of joining forces with Frankie Dettori when he becomes the new global ambassador to Amo Racing.

Dettori will bow out after the Breeders’ Cup meeting at Del Mar across Friday and Saturday, except for a “few rides” in South America, after which he will take up the role with one of racing’s fastest-growing forces.

The Italian rode several notable winners for Joorabchian’s outfit, most memorably steering King Of Steel to success in the 2023 Champion Stakes in what was his last ever ride in Britain, after which he reversed a retirement decision to move to America.

What can you say about Frankie? He is a true legend of our sport.

'A true legend of our sport'

“Frankie and I have talked for quite a while over the past six months about him becoming our global ambassador,” Joorabchian said.

“He rode for us six or seven years ago such as Maxi Boy and Persian Force who was second in the Prix Morny. Then he rode that memorable race on King Of Steel on Champions Day at Ascot. It meant a lot to me.

“What can you say about Frankie? He is a true legend of our sport. When you see his statue at Ascot it tells you what a career he’s had and by signing him up hopefully he will get to do things that I don’t get to do any more.

“He will be good to work with in all aspects, whether it’s going out seeing the horses, to talking to the press and making suggestions about how we can improve.

“He will start for us on January 1 at the latest and he will work closely with David (Egan, jockey), Kevin (Philippart de Foy, trainer), Amy (Drummond, head of operations) and the team.

“They all said this is amazing and that they’re thrilled he will be a part of it.”
