Jungle Pocket to miss Ascot run

Ambitious plans to bring Japanese star Jungle Pocket to Britain to run in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot had to be scrapped today.

Last year`s Japan Cup and Japan Derby winner has been ruled out of next month`s race due to a setback.

Owner Yomoji Saito and trainer Sakae Watanabe announced in a joint a statement: 'We found that his physical condition was very bad after training.

'He should rest this summer to recover his condition. Now he will miss the Takarazuka Kinen next week and we will cancel his trip to the UK.'

The Kinen had been due to be the colt`s warm-up for the King George, after which race he was set to be aimed at the Juddmonte International Stakes at York in August.

Jungle Pocket`s trip to Britain had been inspired by a visit to Japan by Ascot clerk of the course Nick Cheyne earlier this year.

His connections had been impressed with the track on a reconnaissance mission last month, and had arranged for their charge to board with Geoff Wragg.

The four-year-old had been quoted at 10-1 for the King George by Coral.
