Katarino for chasing bow

Katarino, winner of the 1999 Triumph Hurdle, is set to make his debut over British fences at Newbury tomorrow.

The Nicky Henderson-trained gelding has been plagued by a wind problem since, but he has his fingers crossed that is behind him as he tackles the Daily Telegraph Fulke Walwyn Novices` Chase at the Berkshire track.

'That is what it is all going to come down to,' said the Seven Barrows handler. 'He did have a gallop at Newbury a fortnight ago and that went well. But we`ve got to find out _ the only test is going to be on a racecourse.

'Norman Williamson is going to ride him.'

Henderson also confirmed the promising Got One Too a definite runner in the Fightworks Gerry Feilden Intermediate Hurdle on the same card with Williamson also taking that ride in the absence of the suspended Mick Fitzgerald.

Got One Too has won his last two starts over timber and was an impressive victor at this course earlier this month when he was given a smart ride in front by Fitzgerald.

'He was impressive there the other day but this is a step up,' said Henderson. 'It quite an open Gerry Feilden, all I can say is that Armaturk beat him at Kempton last year, I think he beat us three lengths or something, and we`re 11lbs better off. So we`re entitled to take him on.'

Got One Too`s last success came over two miles and three furlongs but Henderson is not worried about dropping him back two and a half furlongs.

'That wouldn`t worry me,' he said. 'I thought I was a bit brave going that far to be honest. He`s ready to go.'

Henderson added that he will give 2000 Smurfit Champion Hurdle third Blue Royal more time before his eagerly-awaited chasing debut.

His only run since that Cheltenham effort came at Punchestown last May and he has been off since with a leg problem.

'There`s no plans for him in the near future,' Henderson added. 'He`s got a lot of work to do yet.'

Support for Grey Abbey in the Hennessy itself continued yesterday.

Barry Murtagh`s charge was cut to 12-1 from 14s by Coral, who offered the gelding at 25-1 a week ago.

Two rivals on course for the #100,000 showpiece are the Ferdy Murphy-trained pair, Hindiana and Streamstown.

'Dean (Gallagher) just gave Hindiana a pop over fences and he jumped brilliant for him,' Murphy said.
