Keane booked for Chiefofchiefs in big Ascot handicap Charlie Fellowes has booked Colin Keane for Chiefofchiefs in Saturday’s Moet & Chandon International Stakes at Ascot. A real course specialist, the nine-year-old is a Royal Ascot winner having won the Silver Wokingham in 2020. Fourth at the last two Royal meetings, in the Wokingham and Buckingham Palace Stakes, he also finished fourth in this race two years ago. With usual partner Jamie Spencer riding Bunbury Cup winner Bless Him this weekend, Fellowes has snapped up Ireland’s champion jockey, who is over to ride Westover. “He can be frustrating to watch at times, but I feel a bit sorry for him,” said Fellowes. “He has won at Royal Ascot, but I feel he deserves to win one more big one before he retires — you wouldn’t know he was nine as he’s training as well as he ever has done. “I’d love to see him win another big one and I’ve no doubt he’s got the ability to somewhere along the line. “I’ve always had a gut feeling the Ayr Gold Cup was his race but for the last two years he’s missed it, once through his fault and once through the fault of his trainer — it’s very much his target this year. “He loves Ascot, he’ll have a new jockey in Colin Keane as Jamie Spencer is on Bless Him — he’s a pretty good deputy — and I’d love to see him win as he’s a real yard favourite.
