Colin Keane added to his earlier success on the card when partnering the Andrew McNamara trained Superficial to win the Racing Again Here On June 8th Handicap at Roscommon.

Held up towards rear early on, Keane moved closer to track the leaders on the 4/1 chance early in the home straight.

Going second two-furlongs from the finish, the Rathconrath Racing Club owned gelding led a furlong out, before keeping on best to score by two-and-three-quarter lengths.

“He’s maybe had a couple of unlucky days,” said McNamara.

“He was a bit unlucky in Listowel one day and then he ran into one in Bellewstown. We were 11 lengths in front of the favourite (Obscenity) then but still got chinned by one.

“He’s had some lovely runs and he deserved to get a win under his belt.

“At Ballinrobe the last day it just didn’t work out, he had a bad draw and they went slow.

“He’s a nice straightforward horse and you’d be hoping there is more to come from him.

“He’s big and doesn’t have the most amazing action so I’d say a bit of juice helped and this is probably his ideal ground.

“We went hurdling with him, which didn’t really work out, but we’ll probably give it a go again at some stage. He schooled well but didn’t jump well in his runs.

“We’ll probably stick to the Flat for the moment and hopefully there is another day in him.”
