Trainer Noel Kelly is keeping his fingers crossed conditions at Limerick do not deteriorate ahead of Mighty Whitey's appearance in tomorrow's Club Limerick 24th July Supporters Day Handicap Hurdle.

The eight-year-old ran a fine race on his return from a six-month break at Downpatrick at the end of March, going down by a neck to Back Off Mate.

Davy Russell gets the leg up for the first time this weekend and Kelly believes his charge is capable of making his presence felt. He said: "I'm expecting a good run. He's been in very good form since Downpatrick, but he will probably improve a bit for the run. We are hoping to get a handy lead with him. Davy Russell is booked and he's riding very well. I would prefer it if the rain stayed away. There's been a lot forecast."

Local trainer Patrick Neville is represented by Rightville Boy, who won at the track almost three weeks ago.

Neville said: "He's in great form. He has a good claimer on him in Shane Shortall. He's never ridden for me before, but he's a good rider and the horse should be straightforward. He likes Limerick, he has won and been second in his two runs there.

"We are getting plenty of rain near the track and we want the rain. I've eight in training, all National Hunt horses, but I've room for more!"
