Khan collects another suspension Veteran jockey Ikbal Khan incurred another lengthy whip suspension at Dundalk this evening, after the 55-year-old steered his family’s Lahore Da King to a fourth-place finish in the Bar 1 Betting ‘Download Our App‘ Handicap. Khan, with 17 winners in his native Pakistan before moving to Ireland 20 years ago, has worked with leading trainers including Willie Mullins and current employer Jim Bolger and, in 2023, resumed his race-riding career on a part-time basis. On his resumption at Killarney in July 2023, Khan picked up a ten-day ban for using his whip with excessive frequency and while he bagged two wins on Lahore Da King just last December, today, on his 11th ride in Ireland, notched a fifth offence for overuse of his whip. Today's suspensions, which are subject to appeal, total 22 days and the IHRB report reads: The Raceday Stewards interviewed I. Khan, rider of Lahore Da King, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted he was in breach of the Whip Regulation and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that I. Khan was in breach of R.10.3(g)(frequency) and R.10.3(i)(time to respond). Having considered his clean record regarding R.10.3(g), they suspended him for two racedays. Having considered his record regarding R.10.3(i) (fifth offence), they suspended him for twenty racedays.
