Killarney Concert for Injured Jockeys Fund Killarney Racecourse in association with Celtic Steps, the INEC and the Irish Examiner are organising a Fundraising Concert in aid of the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund. The concert featuring Celtic Steps and friends is to take place on Sunday 12th of May, the opening day of Killarney three-day May Festival. Further artists will be announced in due course. David Rea Producer of Celtic Steps approached Killarney Racecourse with the fundraising proposal to support the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund following recent serious accidents within the industry. Killarney racecourse and David Rea contacted industry connections with a view to gauging support for the concert and ultimately raising as much money as possible for the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund. The INEC has provided the concert venue free of charge and all concert participants: dancers, musicians and artists will be donating their time and talents to the cause. The Irish Examiner is event media partner. Killarney Racecourse Manager Micheál Lucey said: “Killarney Racecourse is delighted to be associated with such a novel fundraising initiative. The response has been humbling; the generosity shown has been overwhelming. It offers an opportunity for patrons to enjoy a great day’s racing, entertainment and a concert while making a contribution to a worthwhile cause. "Recent incidents have highlighted the risks within the sport of racing and it is incumbent on those within the Industry to do all we can for those whose participation in the sport has resulted in serious injury." Tickets for the Fundraising Concert retail at €30 which includes admission to the opening day of Killarney’s three-day May Racing Festival, with 100% of ticket proceeds going to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund. Tickets go on sale from ticketmaster and the INEC box office on Saturday 20th of April 2013.
