Connections will be hoping he turns into a smart horse as there’s significant potential on the breeding front further down the line. He made his debut in a maiden over 1m2f at Leopardstown last month and was always up with the pace. The son of Gun Runner was outstayed in the end and lost second place inside the final half-a-furlong. Dropping back to a mile could help on that front and positive tactics could lead to the shedding of his maiden tag over this shorter trip. Gun Carriage wasn’t the yard’s first-string runner that day but he’s Aidan O’Brien’s sole representative this time around. Improvement seems likely on just his second start and the form of his debut effort has received a boost since, with stablemate and winner Stay True finishing second by a short head in the Lingfield Derby Trial on Saturday. 17:50 Killarney - Faiyum Only four runners have been declared for the €22,000 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Race and it looks like an excellent opportunity for Ger Lyons’ Faiyum. She made her debut in a Naas maiden back in March and ran out an impressive winner. This daughter of Frankel was in midfield in the early stages of the race but made smooth progress approaching the two-furlong pole and pulled comfortably clear to score by just shy of three lengths. Lyons’ filly would have learnt plenty from the experience and one would imagine there is more improvement to come on just her second start. It’s possible that she wouldn’t need to step forward to win this and a similar effort could be enough, but she has the potential to develop into a smart filly. Colin Keane is on board and it’ll be a surprise if Faiyum doesn’t come out of the race with her unbeaten record intact. Excited for the PGA Championship? It was a different story when upped to 1m2f on handicap and seasonal debut at Navan last month, though, as he produced a much improved display and stayed on eye-catchingly well to finish third behind Junkyard Dog. It’s hard to argue with a 4lb rise and there could be more improvement on the cards. The extra furlong looks likely to suit at Killarney and he should be bang in the mix once again.
