Kinane Next In Line For Icon

Mick Kinane could come in for the ride aboard Sixties Icon in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe if Frankie Dettori partners Shirocco in the 12-furlong showpiece.

Christophe Soumillon is likely to take the ride aboard the latter, who is unbeaten in three races this year, but he would be claimed to ride Mandesha for the Aga Kahn's daughter Princess Zahra, should connections decide to take the plunge and supplement their filly.

Explaining the complex situation, Newmarket handler Jeremy Noseda said: 'If Frankie jumps ship we will go for Mick. Whoever rides our fellow, we know we face a tough task taking on Andre Fabre's pair, plus the Japanese raider Deep Impact ? three great horses.

'However, the owners are keen for Sixties Icon to run and as the horse has come out of York so well we have decided to roll the dice.

'The bookies probably have it right by making us 12-1 or 14-1 but we have nothing to lose and we will give it our best shot,' he told The Sportsman.
