Knight Wants Murphy For Impek Bid

Henrietta Knight is hoping Timmy Murphy will be available to take the ride on leading fancy Impek in the Stan James King George VI Chase on Boxing Day.

Victories at Aintree and Huntingdon this season broke a 14-race losing sequence and marked him down as a serious contender for major honours in the mid-season championship, staged at Sandown this year owing to on-going redevelopment work at Kempton.

And connections now find Impek towards the head of the betting (15-2 with the sponsors) for the three-mile Christmas highlight, a race which Knight and owner Jim Lewis have won twice before, with Best Mate and Edredon Bleu.

'I certainly think that he is entitled to line up,' she said. 'Admittedly there are two very good ´Kings´ in front of him (Kicking King and Kingscliff), but he stays three miles and he likes Sandown.

'He seems to get stronger and more determined with every race and he handles any sort of ground.

'Timmy Murphy would be our first choice jockey but I suppose it depends what Mr Pipe and Mr Johnson are going to run. We won´t know until nearer the time.

'If Tony (McCoy) is available then he will be a very able substitute. They have both ridden the horse, both won on him and they both believe in him.'
