Top stayer Kyprios begins his season today at Navan with the Aidan O’Brien-trained seven-year-old lining up in the Listed Bar One Racing Vintage Crop Stakes, ahead of a hat-trick bid in June’s Ascot Gold Cup.

The Moyglare Stud-owned son of Galileo was the outstanding horse in the staying division in 2022 and while injury forced him to miss 344 days before his September 2023 return, he won all seven starts in 2024 during another dominant year.

Winner of the 2022 and ‘24 Ascot Gold Cups, Kyprios has used today’s Navan race - for which he is the 1/6 favourite, as a starting point and is currently on course for Royal Ascot.

Trainer O’Brien reports “Kyprios is in an incredible horse, has a lot of class, is a lovely laid-back lazy horse through a race and would be very comfortable at 1m2f but obviously gets the Gold Cup trip. That is a very unusual thing.

“Everyone wants to go back to Ascot with him, so we’re starting in Navan, then going to Leopardstown (Saval Beg Stakes) and if everything is well, then to Ascot. We’ll see then where we go after that.”
