The Hugh Paul Finegan-trained Lady Bluebird proved strong in the finish when staying on strongly to win the Cottage Autism Network Mares Beginners Chase at Wexford.

Sent off 20/1 under Ben Harvey, the mare made much of the running but looked in trouble as Future Prospect moved up to challenge approaching two out.

However, the daughter of Retirement Plan refused to be bested, finding plenty after jumping the last to hold the determined challenge of the runner-up by a length.

Harvey commented: "She got into a brilliant rhythm and jumped well. I felt she was just waiting on me as we left the back so I gave her a squeeze early, and she winged the last two and was very tough to the line.

"I thought I had enough left (when Future Prospect challenged) but I thought she might just quicken by me. We got a good jump at the last, landed running and put the race to bed."
