Layfayette may return to the Curragh on Derby weekend Layfayette has proved a great servant to connections for many seasons and the Noel Meade-trained gelding may bid to add to his nine career wins at the Curragh later this month. The eight-year-old son of French Navy continues to hold his form well despite advancing years and was a creditable fourth behind Green Impact in the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown last week despite starting slowly. “He’s entered in the International Stakes (Group 3) on Derby weekend at the Curragh and if there is an easy in the ground he’ll go there,” confirmed Meade. “We do need a cut in the ground as it was barely slow enough for him in Leopardstown. “He’s gone a bit cute coming out of the stalls and gave away about six lengths but still ran well.” Layfayette has amassed total earnings of nearly half a million euro with two of his career highlights coming at the Curragh when landing the Lincoln and the Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes.
