Lee back with a winner aboard Iowa City Billy Lee, on his comeback ride from a collarbone injury, swooped late and fast on Iowa City to claim the Donnellys Of Barna Rated Race over an extended eight-furlongs at Galway. The leader, Genuine Article, kicked for home entering the straight and was still a healthy three lengths clear inside the final furlong. French-import Iowa City really found her stride at this stage to make headway in pursuit. There was nothing motoring faster than Iowa City in second in the closing stages and she mugged the all-out Genuine Article close home to land the spoils by three-parts of a length at 18/1. Runner-up Genuine Article went off the 5/4 favourite and was a length in front of Rhythm King (7/1). This was Iowa City's second start on Irish turf having finished third of four at Killarney in May. She had plenty of quality form in her native country. Paddy Twomey said: "It is a great to give the jockey a winner on his first ride back and the filly is nice. I ran her in May at Killarney on ground which was maybe too quick for her in hindsight and I thought coming here today that she would run very well. "I'm not surprised she won but was surprised in the manner she did it, as what she did is hard to do in Galway. I think she's not too bad and will go back into stakes company now." Lee added: "It was a great way to come back. I was out for eight weeks and it was frustrating and felt longer, as it was at the height of the season. "I have a lot of people to thank, like the people in RACE who got me back in good strength, and to Paddy Kenny who got me operated on so quick, which made a big difference to getting back so soon. "Iowa City did it well, but didn't travel early. I felt we went a good gallop, they steadied it before coming down the hill and she came on the bridle. I then had to sit and suffer coming into the dip but, when I got a run, she picked up really well and sustained that run. "We wanted to ride her handier, but that's the way things turned out and I thought she did well to win." Additional reporting by Tom Weekes
