The money for Nouveau Grey in the finale at Naas proved well founded as he got on top in the closing stages to give Billy Lee a double on the card.

Ross O'Sullivan's charge was backed from 10/1 into 3/1 in the newcomers event, over seven furlongs, and came with a strong surge inside the final furlong.

The New Bay colt was nicely on top at the line to post a two-and-a-half length success over 11/4 favourite Miss Hong Kong .

"He has always been showing us a bit at home. In fairness to Shane Foley he did all the work on him and he loved him from day one,” said O'Sullivan.

“He was a horse that Katie had at the breeze ups last year but he had a mile-and-a-half pedigree and he didn't break the clock. He has a very good pedigree.

“Katie had him in France but there was no one for him. She said 'this horse is too good to leave go'. She loved him so much. She cold called Amanda and Amanda said 'Katie, if you recommend him, I'll take him'.

“Amanda bought him there and then. She had never seen the horse.

“He was a horse that always wanted a dig in the ground, so we were in no rush with him. Billy likes him and he seems like a horse that could progress as a three-year-old."

Lee had also collected earlier on New Bond Street and stretched his lead in the jockeys' title race to seven, over Colin Keane.
