Lee relishing jockeys' title race Billy Lee is having the best season of his career and is involved in a battle royal with Colin Keane for the Irish flat jockeys' championship. Dave Keena caught up with Lee to discuss his memorable season. "It has been going great and the season snowballed. After about a month into the season, I got going and thank God I've kept the momentum up still," the jockey said. "I do two days on the Curragh(Tuesday and Friday) and two days with Paddy Twomey (Wednesday and Saturday). I leave one or two days then for whoever needs me to go and ride work for them." "My three main trainers are Willie McCreery, Ken Condon and Paddy Twomey - I have been lucky enough to ride a Group One winner for each, so that makes it a bit special." "Those yards have been having a good year and it's contributed to me having my best season so far." In relation to pre-race instructions from the aforementioned trainers, he added: "We discuss instructions, we have a little chat. When you go out there, the plan can change and you have to adapt it. "That's where I'd be hoping they have complete trust in me; if the plan needs to change. I can adapt quick enough and they have my back if it goes wrong. All in all, they are great to ride for and that gives me great confidence going out there." When asked about the competitiveness of Irish racing, Lee replied: "You could nearly split England into three or four (meetings) on the day. Whereas here, everyone is going to the one meeting. You are meeting the same competitive people, day in, day out." "You have to be at the top of your game, so that is what makes it so competitive." On potentially winning the championship for the first time, he said: "Yeah, look, I've been thinking away about it. I haven't let it affect my riding. I'm just riding, day-to-day, the best I can. "It would be lovely to win it. At the same time, I'm after my best year and am just delighted with the way things are going." Lee is on 71 winners for the season and is one ahead of current champion Keane.
