Legends at Largy

The three winning-most jockeys in Irish point to point history were each in action at Largy point to point yesterday for the first time since the trio each passed previous record holder Enda Bolger.

The three, Derek O’Connor (now the winning-most rider on 692 wins), John Thomas McNamara (the first rider to break the 500 winner mark) and Jamie Codd (currently on 424 wins) have each demoted former multiple Champion Point to Point Jockey Bolger into fourth spot, on 413 winners.

For good measure, Bolger, who retired from race-riding in 1999, was present at Saturday’s Northern meeting where McCauley’s Lad was his best placing, finishing third in the opening four year old maiden.

Codd and multiple Champion Jockey O’Connor are currently locked together in a titanic duel (70 winners apiece) to be this season’s leading rider.
