Light morning for Champions Mile contenders on eve of big race

No problems were reported as the finishing touches were applied to the field for the HK$8 million Champions Mile at Sha Tin with just 24 hours to go before what promises to be an explosive first leg to the inaugural Asian Mile Challenge.

Perhaps the best form of the 13-runner field over the mile distance belongs to Attraction, whose four wins over 1600m in 2004 placed her joint-third in the world filly/mare rankings.

Attraction cantered two 1400m stretches of the all-weather under work rider Mark Billingham who reported to trainer Mark Johnston: 'She feels great. She really wants to get on with it.'

Johnston reiterated that every thing has gone as well as possible with her preparation and was pleased with the Sha Tin turf, which will provide good ground for tomorrow´s race.

Delzao, the Australian contender, lobbed around the all-weather in his own time under the eye of trainer Robert Smerdon ? routine stuff.

The Japanese contender Cosmo Bulk familiarised himself with the covered Sha Tin paddock for the first time. Owner Misako Okada said: 'He has adjusted well to Hong Kong and I think he is going to run well for us tomorrow. It will be a great moment for NAR racing in Japan.'

Fully prepared, the 10 Hong Kong runners only performed very light work.
