The Daniel Howard trained 11-year-old Likable Chancer won for just the third time in his career when getting up close home under Daniel King to take the I.P.R.S. Handicap Chase at Tramore.

Previously a course and distance winner at the County Waterford track, the veteran was always front rank before delivering his challenge approaching two out.

Disputing with eventual second Bondi Boy Blue jumping the final fence, the two went head to head on the short run-in.

The latter almost certainly went in front at one stage but to his credit, Likable Chancer found that bit extra close home to score by a nose.

With Danny Howard on lead up duties, Daniel King said: "I've won on him before in Ballinrobe and I've ridden him plenty of times. He is a deadly spin and is a super jumper. He likes getting his own way out in front but they were kind of taking me on there today. In fairness he battled well, he was good and tough and needed to be.

"He is not overly big, so he liked the nice, tight track and gets around the bends well. His jumping is so good he can gain lengths. He is a great horse to ride and a great horse for Danny to have. The owners get a good kick out of it as well."

Owner Annette Daffy added: "It seems like he has been with us forever. We bought him eight years ago at the Derby Sale. He's never let us down and we're very happy with him."
