Local Resident takes Listowel opener The Cian Collins-trained Local Resident was an impressive winner of the John Lynch Memorial Maiden Hurdle at Listowel for jockey Danny Gilligan. Local Resident was the recipient of strong market support, (9-2 into 7-4) before the off, and duly obliged with a no-nonsense performance. The Philip Rothwell-trained You Lift Me Up led him into the bend before he took command before two out. The Shirocco gelding jumped the second last well and despite a slight mistake at the last went on to win by five lengths. Speaking after the race, Collins said: “It has been a very lucky family for us and ever since this horse came to me, he has always worked very well. After he had finished second in his point-to-point, the owners bought him with this race in mind so it is great that it worked out. “They went very hard in today's race but he has that ability and, in time, he will stay all day.
