Lockinge Attracts Eleven Entries

Rakti will face 10 rivals as he makes his seasonal bow in Saturday´s Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.

Michael Jarvis´ six-year-old is the ante-post favourite for the mile event after top mare Soviet Song was ruled out after scoping badly earlier in the week.

Jarvis has elected to bring Rakti, a dual Group One winner last season, to Newbury rather than wait for an alternative target in Italy on Sunday.

He will be part of a competitive line-up though, with Luca Cumani fielding recent Leicester winner Le Vie Dei Colori while Aidan O´Brien relies on the enigmatic Antonius Pius.

The four-year-old looked certain to win the French 2000 Guineas last season before jinking out and colliding with the rails.

He also just failed to catch Singletary in the Breeders´ Cup Mile last October but O´Brien has issued an upbeat bulletin on the son of Danzig.

'He´s is good form,' said the Ballydoyle handler. 'He´s a grand sort, who has been working well.

'He´s a horse with a lot of speed so we could keep him over a mile or he could drop back in trip.'

Australian star Elvstroem will make his British debut in the Group One contest while Godolphin run the ex-South African gelding Grand Emporium.

Sir Michael Stoute won the race last year with Russian Rhythm and this season he runs Arakan while Autumn Glory, Babodana, Hurricane Alan, Mac Love and Tarfah complete the field.

Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes, Ladbrokes bet: 11-4 Rakti, 3-1 Le Vie Dei Colori, 6-1 Antonius Pius, 8-1 Elvstroem, Grand Emporium, 12-1 Arakan, Autumn Glory, 14-1 Hurricane Alan, Tarfah, 33-1 Babodana, Mac Love.
