Roger Varian is still undecided over whether Belardo should take his chance in the French 2000 Guineas at Longchamp on Sunday, for which there are still 29 possibles.

One of the best of his generation last season, Belardo won the Dewhurst and Godolphin moved to buy a share in the Lope De Vega colt.

He reappeared in the Greenham at Newbury last month but found the ground too quick and trailed home eighth of the nine runners.

"Belardo is in the French 2000 Guineas but he is not a definite runner. It is an option as we would be likely to have the ground in our favour in France," said Varian.

"There are likely to be 20 runners and on the round course there that can be a bit of a scrum so we will consider the Irish 2000 Guineas, too.

"The horse is very well but no decision has been made yet.

"He will run in one or the other."

The winner of the Greenham was the Charlie Hills-trained Muhaarar, who is also in contention for the Longchamp Classic.

Writing on his website, www.charleshills.com, the Lambourn trainer said: "We will leave Muhaarar in the French 2000 Guineas.

"He's been in great form since his Greenham win and we're just hoping the ground dries up a bit and we get a good draw."

Other British-trained contenders include Maftool, Richard Hannon's duo of Misterioso and Smaih, the Kevin Ryan-trained Flaming Spear and Salateen, Glenalmond and Prince Gargarin.

Aidan O'Brien has left in Highland Reel, Smuggler's Cove, Dick Whittington, Royal Navy Ship and War Envoy.

Leading home contenders include Karaktar, Cornwallville and Make Believe.
