Wayne Lordan warmed up for his big day aboard Slade Power at the weekend with a significant victory on the Emirates Melbourne Cup card at Flemington.

Lordan, who is set to partner Eddie Lynam's star sprinter in the VRC Sprint on Saturday, secured Listed honours aboard the Anthony Freedman-trained Reparations.

Godolphin's six-year-old stylishly pulled a length and a quarter clear of Office Bearer in the MSS Security Sprint over six furlongs.

The jockey said: "He tended to idle a little but when he got to the front but I appreciate the opportunity to get the ride over here and it was great.

"Mr Freedman told me that he'd enjoy a straight track which he obviously did."

Freedman said: "I'm not a good tipster but I thought the horse would run very well.

"I did tell a few people and I thought he was silly odds.

"He'd never been up the straight and clearly he's OK with it.

"It's a good result for the team and he might be a horse who can win something better down the track."
