A winner at Naas on his most recent start, the Gerard O'Leary trained Love Billy Boy made it back-to-back successes when staying on best to land the Leopardstown Golf & Driving Range Apprentice Handicap.

Held up in mid division in the early stages of the race, Wayne Hassett(celebrating his 19th birthday today)was content to ride a waiting race as Patrick McGettigan took them along aboard Transcending Glory

Pushed along to assert over two-furlongs out, the latter briefly looked to have stolen the race from the front.

However, Love Billy Boy came with a strong run down the centre of the track to go second over 200 yards out, before reeling in Transcending Glory 50 yards from the finish.

Ger O’Leary said: “We have him entered in the Royal Hunt Cup in Ascot and he might get a few pounds that would get him into that.

“There is another race on the Thursday, a seven-furlong 0-105, so we’re going to enjoy tonight and talk about going across the water then.”
