Lucky Vega in good shape ahead of 2000 Guineas Shane Foley reports Lucky Vega in good form ahead of his bid for classic glory next Saturday in the Qipco 2000 Guineas. The Jessica Harrington-trained colt was an impressive winner of the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh last year and signed off his juvenile campaign when runner-up to Supremacy in the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket. “He’s in good shape and had a gallop in the Curragh last week”, said Foley of the son of Lope De Vega, whose galloping companion Bopedro won at Cork yesterday. “It’s all systems go and we’re happy with him. It’s going to be a very competitive race and a big field but we’re going there with our fingers crossed. “He has some form at the track so we know he handles Newmarket. I think he’ll get the mile. He seems to be settling good at home and he’ll give himself every chance. “He’s a horse that has a lot of natural pace. We’ll have to roll the dice and find out. “If it’s a case that it doesn’t work he can always come back for the Commonwealth Cup.” Lucky Vega is a top-priced 20/1 with bet365 for the Qipco 2000 Guineas. Another three-year-old by Lope De Vega that Foley is looking forward to is Sacred Thyme, who makes her seasonal reappearance in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Salsabil Stakes at Navan tomorrow. She fetched 140,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale and took a Thurles maiden in good style on her second start last autumn. “She’s a filly that just goes through the motions at home and it will be interesting to get her out. “She won very impressively in Thurles last year. We like her and she’s ready to start. I think she’ll improve plenty for the run.”
