Madness D’elle rallied gamely to land the spoils in the opening Sea Moon & Silverwave At Burgage Maiden Hurdle at Gowran Park this afternoon.

Paul Townend jumped out in front on the 2/5 shot in the two-miler and he had a good look at his hurdles on the way around. Manoir De Mirande joined the hotpot three from home and went to the front after the next flight.

Madness D’elle wrestled back the advantage before the last though and stayed on well in the closing stages to post a two-and-three-quarter length success.

The winner was making his second outing for Willie Mullins having been runner-up when a similarly short price at Punchestown last month. He had been third on his only start in his native France.

Townend said:- "He was lairy and as we were going so slow, it gave him too much time to think about it. When I got him down and started racing, he jumped fine and his experience helped.

"It was a falsely run race, it was a dash for two furlongs and still the last furlong was hard work.

“I needed to get him back going again from the second last but I thought he improved from his first run for us.

"We went so slow that it was a hard race to get a handle on, but he is a grand horse."
