Maestro Mark lands gamble on debut at Gowran John Murphy's Maestro Mark was backed at massive prices (66/1 and 50/1) this morning ahead of his debut in Listowel and he won the extended nine-furlong maiden in taking fashion. He rounded the bend in third for Gary Carroll who clearly had plenty of horse under him as they tanked through to lead inside the final quarter of a mile. The three-year-old gelded son of Tamayuz opened up in the final furlong and won as he pleased, despite running green, by two and a-half lengths at 9/1. Game Point, the 8/15 favourite, had no answers in second, but was six lengths ahead of Ben Lawers (5/1). “George (Murphy, assistant trainer) said beforehand that he thought he was a very nice horse,” said Carroll. “He gave me a lovely feel. He travelled through the race really easily, I got there sooner than I wanted to, but he just picked up so well. “He was very green when he hit the front, he rode like a nice horse. “Ger’s (Lyons) is an 88-rated horse (Game Point) and he beat him very easily. He felt very smart and I think there is a lot more to come.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
