Magician out to defend crown Magician will defend his Breeders' Cup Turf crown from stall eight at Santa Anita on Saturday. Ryan Moore partners Sir Michael Stoute's Telescope, who is drawn in stall one, while Brown Panther (four) and Flintshire (seven) add further strength in depth for the European charge, with the former David Lanigan inmate Main Sequence among the home team. Dank, trained by Stoute and ridden by Moore, won the Filly & Mare Turf 12 months ago and is back for another go in stall three. She is joined in the line-up by Just the Judge (two) and Secret Gesture (five). Willie McCreery sets sail in the race with Fiesolana. The five-year-old mare claimed the scape of Rizeena in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on her penultimate outing but she could only finish sixth in the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp. Flaxman Stables' representative will be partnered by Billy Lee, who must guide Fiesolana from out of gate six.
