JP Magnier remains in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast after undergoing surgery yesterday.

The amateur suffered a heavy fall at Down Royal on Friday when On The Verge slipped up in the bumper.

He was take to the Royal Victoria for observation that evening and spent the weekend at the hospital.

Doctors operated yesterday to insert steel rods into his back to stabilise his vertebrae and he is presently in a cast.

His father John Magnier reportedly spent the weekend in the north and visited Saturday and Sunday.

The Turf Club's Chief Medical Officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick said this morning:-

"A family friend has told me the operation was very successful. He will remain in Belfast for three or four days and then will be discharged home."
