Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) have announced a number of changes in the management structures of Marketing and Communications, with Michael O'Hagan appointed Director of Communications and International Affairs while he will also continue as CEO of Irish Thoroughbred Marketing (ITM).

O’Hagan will be responsible for all external HRI communications as well as the recruitment and retention of racehorse owners both domestically and internationally.

Tamso Doyle, reporting to Michael O'Hagan, will now be known as Communications Manager with responsibility for media coverage of HRI and Irish racing.

Elaine Hatton, who formerly held a senior marketing position with Glanbia, has been appointed General Manager of ITM.

Michael O'Rourke takes on the role of Director of Strategy and Marketing for HRI with particular responsibility for strategic planning within HRI.

He will also be responsible for raising awareness levels and interest in racing generally, particularly via new media.

Barbara White, reporting to Michael O'Rourke, will take over the role of Marketing Manager, with responsibility for consumer advertising, promotions and direct marketing.

The direct racecourse support work previously carried out by the HRI Marketing Department will in future fall under the responsibility of the Director of Racing, Jason Morris, to fit in with his work on fixtures and programmes.

Commenting on the new structures HRI Chief Executive Brian Kavanagh said, “These new posts will enhance our service to all stakeholders in Irish racing and add resources to the growing overseas market for the Irish thoroughbred.

“Racing has shown great resilience in coping with the recession, and we are confident that we can play a positive role in economic recovery in coming years.”
