Castlebrook is set to have his sights lowered after finishing third to the impressive Faugheen in the Grade 1 novice chase at Limerick on St Stephen's Day.

Jimmy Mangan's six-year-old gelding was no match for the front pair of Faugheen and Samcro but kept on in the hands of Phillip Enright.

Former point-to-point winner Castlebrook will be going back up in trip from the extended two miles three on offer in Limerick.

Jimmy Mangan said: “He seems fine after the race in Limerick and I have to say it was some performance by the winner.

“He’s over 17 hands and has grown another inch. He’s a huge horse and is probably still a bit weak.

“There is a Grade 3 race over three miles at Naas in January (on 26/1/20) that we are looking at. Robbie Power picked it out and hopefully he’ll head there next.”

Castlebrook won his beginners' chase at Wexford in October.
