Mo Ghille Mar bounced back to winning ways when claiming the first division of the Slaney River Handicap Hurdle at Wexford for ‘Shark’ Hanlon.

The Zoffany mare was prominent throughout for Gary Noonan, but was headed over the fourth last by Miss Donna

Noonan bided his time before sending the 22/1 shot back to the front before the second last. She galloped on strongly in the closing stages to score by three-and-a-quarter lengths.

“She was always capable of doing it but she’s quirky,” said Hanlon.

“She was a 90-rated Flat mare, when she decides to go she goes but when she doesn’t she doesn’t. You’ll have a good day and a bad day with her.

“The other horse took her on but Gary knew she had a bit of speed so he gave her a breather down the far side. He said before he jumped the second last it was over.

“She’s a right mare but she’s very quirky. My heart is broke with her!

“My horses are just starting to come.

“It’s my first winner for Bronsan Racing, they sent her to me from Jessica Harrington’s. In fairness Jessie was very good and told me everything they did with her and it worked for me as well.”
