Marina scores on run number two for Griffin

Willie Mullins once described Glencove Marina as "probably one of the most exciting horses we ever had, after Florida Pearl," and on outing number two for Eoin Griffin, the Spectrum gelding, hindered so much by leg problems, showed his old sparkle to land the Thurles Chase in the hands of Barry Geraghty.

Geraghty was sitting pretty on John Brennan's eight-year-old from a fair way out as Rare Bob and Notre Pere came under pressure. He was going to win from between the last two fences and despite understandably tiring in the conditions he was able to account for the staying-on Notre Pere by four lengths.

Griffin said: "That's a nice win to get. He is a very eager horse, always on his toes and as a result he is a bit hard on himself.

"Barry said he'd be better again for that run and that he travelled well to after two out before getting a bit tired. Conditions suited him today and he is in the Hennessy but we've got no real plans as we'll be taking it one day at a time with him."
