Marnane aiming Partner at Portland David Marnane is planning another successful raid on the Portland Handicap at Doncaster next month. The County Tipperary-based handler is looking to Partner to emulate his stable companion Santo Padre, who lifted the valuable sprint at the St Leger Festival last September. Partner ran out an impressive winner at Tipperary on August 6, only to run below form two days later at the Curragh. "He almost broke the track record in Tipperary the other night over the five (furlongs)," Marnane told At The Races. "He'll probably run in the Portland. That's probably his next big target. He's a lovely horse, but I made a mistake in running him back too quick two days later at the Curragh. "He'd broken such a quick time, but it probably took more out of him even though he won very easily. He ran a bit flat at the Curragh. "He's on the same sort of lines as Santo Padre and he was just touched off in a Listed race the other day."
