Marnane maps out plans for Padre

David Marnane plans to campaign Santo Padre in Pattern company next year after the sprinter's emphatic victory in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster.

The lightly-raced five-year-old, who showed a good turn of foot to beat Everymanforhimself by a length and a quarter on Saturday, could have one more outing before being put away for the season.

"It was a dream come true. We always thought he was a very good horse and thankfully it all came together on Saturday," said the County Tipperary trainer.

"We feel he needs to furnish out a little bit more. He won't go to Dubai and you might not see him again this year although we might run him in Dundalk in a Listed race in five weeks' time and then race him at Group level next year.

"That was only the ninth run of his life, so touch wood he should improve a good bit. He has a turn of speed when he wants to and he's laid-back. He has all the attributes of a good horse."
