Marnane wary of Curragh ground

David Marnane has warned he will not risk either Dandy Boy or Santo Padre at the Curragh this weekend should there be plenty of cut in the ground.

Santo Padre holds an entry in the Renaissance Stakes while Dandy Boy is in the Jack & Jill Solonaway Stakes.

However, the County Tipperary trainer does have alternative engagements to both Group Three contests for the pair should more rain fall on the County Kildare course before the weekend.

"They are on course, but the weather is going to be an issue," said Marnane.

"We've had a lot of rain and the ground on the straight course is yielding and good to yielding on the round course.

"They've had a drop more rain this morning so I'd have to be a bit wary about the ground.

"I wouldn't want to run either of them on heavy or soft ground, but we do have other options for them.

"Dandy Boy might go to Sandown tomorrow week for the Fortune Stakes and then he might be given a break and aimed at Dubai.

"Santo Padre is in the Renaissance Stakes, but to be honest he's in the Group Two Diadem Stakes at Ascot on September 26 so we might wait for that if it's decent ground.

"He's coming off a very good run and I wouldn't like him to run on soft ground either," the trainer told At The Races.
