Martymill bags bonus in Red Mills Trainer Anthony McCann’s Martymill (5/6f) produced a dour staying effort to win Cork’s Connolly's Red Mills Irish EBF Auction & Median Maiden Hurdle today, scoring under James Smith and for the Hasson Syndicate, who also picked up a €7,500 bonus. Successful previously in a Downpatrick bumper in August, the son of Getaway disputed the lead with Conor’salwaysright from the third-last, and while untidy jumping the final flight, scored by four and quarter lengths. Afterwards Smith stated “He is quirky and has a mind of his own, but has plenty of ability. We got left in front and he was having a good look around, but is the type of horse you need to keep rolling on. He was good enough to go on and win. “I don’t think Uttoxeter suited him the last day where the went very hard early, and he has some brushing up to do with his jumping. Staying three miles will be no problem to him.” Martymill’s rear left bandage became undone at an early stage of the race, but it mattered little, with Smith adding “I actually hadn’t noticed the bandage, although had noticed it was intact when I was jumping up on him. It may have been a string of cotton which unravelled.”
