Maximum field for the Hunt Cup

Sugarfoot tops a maximum field of 32 for the annual cavalry charge that is the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot tomorrow.

Nigel Tinkler`s charge will have to shrug off the burden of 9st 11lb if he is to score in the #120,000 contest, a feat not achieved since Irish Elegance carried the same weight to success in 1919.

The seven-year-old will be ridden by Willie Ryan now that apprentice Paul Hanagan has been sidelined for three weeks after being knocked out in an incident at York on Saturday.

Paul Cole appears to hold a strong hand in the race with the well-backed Camberley (the mount of Jimmy Fortune) and Lincoln Handicap winner Nimello (Olivier Peslier).

Kieren Fallon rides favourite Tough Speed for Sir Michael Stoute - the same team that struck last year with Caribbean Monarch - while Johnny Murtagh is an eye-catching jockey booking for Vintage Premium, who wears a visor for the first time.

Neil Pollard teams up with trainer Barry Hills to ride Sir Ferbet. The same partnership were successful in 1999 with Showboat.

Big fields are the order of the day at tomorrow`s meeting with 20 two-year-old fillies going to post in the Queen Mary Stakes and a field of 19 declared for the Jersey Stakes.

The feature event is the Prince Of Wales`s Stakes, for which Godolphin`s Fantastic Light did his final piece of prep-work on the gallops this morning.

He gave the impression to workwatchers that he had come on for his success in last month`s Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh and could just prove to be a tough nut to crack.

A horse more familiar to fans of the winter game makes a surprise appearance at Flat racing`s showcase meeting when top hurdler and chaser Dorans Pride lines up in the two-and-half-mile Ascot Stakes.
