May Hill third Speckles breaks her maiden at Leopardstown Third to the very talented Musical Times in Donacaster’s Group 2 May Hill Stakes on her previous outing, odds-on favourite Speckles got off the mark in Leopardstown’s opener on its two-year-olds only card, the Irish EBF Fillies Maiden (Smullen Series) over a mile. The Coolmore-owned daughter of No Nay Never, sent off 8/15, was up front throughout along with promising newcomer Duchessofaquitaine and, under a more forceful ride than that rival, got on top close home under Wayne Lordan to post a half-length victory. "She obviously had a couple of lovely runs coming into this, especially last time when she ran a nice race to get the black type at Doncaster," said Chris Armstrong, representing winning trainer Aidan O’Brien who was busy with his runners at Ascot. “So obviously, dropping back into a maiden, it looked a winnable race. Wayne said it rode a very good maiden. “For a No Nay Never, she'll be well able to stay in the future. It's lovely to get a winning bracket now and we'll put her away and start her off in a trial next year. She'll be a lovely middle-distance filly, all being well."
