Mayson out of Sprint Cup

Darley July Cup winner Mayson will miss the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday because of a dirty scope.

Trainer Richard Fahey admitted it was a blow having to rule the four-year-old out of the six-furlong Group One.

"He just didn't scope right so we can't take a chance. It's disappointing for everyone, but I suppose that's how it goes sometimes," said the Musley Bank handler.

"Because we are not running him it shouldn't be too long. He should recover quick enough.

"There's the Abbaye (at Longchamp) and he's in at Ascot (Qipco British Champions Sprint) as well so we'll see."

Fahey now has to rely on outsider Majestic Myles in the Merseyside feature.

"He's in good form but it's a step up," he said.
