The COLM QUINN BMW Handicap Hurdle looked a wide-open affair and so it proved with Grace Faraday getting up in literally the last stride to take the three-mile event at Galway. Gerrys Wish looked sure to land the spoils on the run-in holding about a three lengths advantage with less than 100 yards to run but was caught on the line.

Eoghan Finnegan’s mount, supported on track from 11/1 into 17/2, won by a head with Barryroe Madam finishing with a real flourish just three-quarters of a length back in third.

Winning trainer Anthony McCann said, “It didn't look likely for a long time, but they went some clip and Eoghan gave her a very cool ride.

"Eoghan comes in one day a week, we're hoping he'll come a second day, and he is a hell of a good rider.

“Aine O'Connor and Jonathan Moore were telling me to get him as a valuable 7lb claimer, and this is our first winner together.

"It's my first winner in Galway and I'm also delighted for the team as we've had a lot of seconds recently. Our horses had just been knocking on the door a bit, but this is great."
