McConnell's Amina gains deserved success Well-backed Amina (5/2 — 6/4f) gained a deserved first success today, landing Ballinrobe’s Paddy Smyth Memorial Mares Maiden Hurdle for trainer John McConnell, jockey Alex Harvey and owners Pimlico Racing Amina & Munster Van Centre. Previously placed on four of five career starts, Amina today raced prominently and while she bumped eventual runner-up Ronnie’s Rascal rounding the final turn, resulting in a subsequent stewards’ enquiry, held on to score by 2.25 lengths. Trainer McConnell said “even though that’s beautiful ground, I didn't really want to run her on good, because she wants three miles on slower ground, but there weren't that many opportunities coming up. "She has a big frame and isn't fully furnished yet. Alex said she wasn't doing a tap in front. "The owners have been very patient and it's nice to get her head in front.
