McCoy back for end of January

Tony McCoy reports he's "improving all the time" and expects to be back in the saddle for Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham at the end of the month.

The champion jockey suffered fractured ribs in a fall at Taunton on December 30 and is not sure when he'll be fit to resume race riding.

"I was pretty sore for a week but I've improved over the last few days and I'm going to see a specialist in Bristol on Thursday," he told At The Races.

"I'm improving a lot all the time but there's so much good racing coming up in the spring I want to make sure I'm 100 per cent right. I was pretty sore and I don't want to be rushing back. It's more important that I'm going to be 100 per cent for the good racing. I'm definitely improving and we'll see how it goes.

"If I came back too early and had a bad fall again and was putting myself in doubt for the better meetings I'd be more disappointed in myself. For once I'm going to do the sensible thing. There's good meetings at Cheltenham and Leopardstown at the end of the month and, all being well, I'll be back for them, probably before."
